After the children got their last compliment, we had Flashlight Friday! It was a fun day where we did all our work and reading by flashlights. We used them in our Morning Meeting for our greeting and activity. We did our reading and math work by flashlights too.

Oobleck Writing
After reading Bartholemew and the Oobleck, we made our own Oobleck out of corn starch, water, and food coloring. As the teacher was making it, the children were writing about each step on the organizer. We have been practicing paragraphs, so this is a perfect how-to paragraph.
Step 1: First, pour the corn starch into the bowl.
Step 2: Next, pour a little water in at a time until it makes a moist consistency and mix.
Step 3: Last, add a little food coloring.

After we wrote our rough draft out, we had an editing time and corrected mistakes. Last, I took my class to the computer lab to type out their paragraphs.
The Lorax
After reading The Lorax, the children had a writing assignment to complete. "If I were The Lorax, this is how I would save the Earth..." We also made this cute little Lorax paper plate craft with it.

Dr. Seuss
We read Dr. Seuss's What Pet Should I Get? We used this graphic organizer to form an opinion about which pet they would get if they had a choice. We have had one lesson on writing a paragraph and this would lead in perfectly for writing another one. We discussed that the topic sentence and concluding sentence should state the same thing, just change the words around a bit.
The children then got to take their paragraphs to the computer lab to type out. They were so proud of themselves!
