Pumpkins

Cut and match the words for pumpkin poem.
Pumpkin, Pumpkin
Round and fat,
Turn into a jack-o-lantern
Just like that!
Scene for 5 Little Pumpkins and glue poem on it:

Five little Pumpkins
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate,
The first one said,
"Oh my, it's getting late."
The second one said,
"But we don't care."
The third one said,
"I see witches in the air."
The fourth one said,
"Let's run, and run, and run."
The fifth one said,
"Get ready for some fun."
Then whoosh went the wind,
and out went the lights,
And five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!

Each child brought in a pumpkin and we did several activities with them.
  • Paint the pumpkins
  • Sort by different rules (stem/no stem, big/medium/small, etc.)
  • Order by size
  • Measure pumpkins
  • Have the kids give the pumpkins a name and write about it
  • Circle map of describing words
  • Toast pumpkin seeds and graph whether or not kids like them
